1950's MCM Santini Spaghetti Poodles x 2 (11707)
Mid-Century-Modern 1950's Spaghetti poodle figurines spoke to an interest in the upper echelons of society like Hollywood starlets and pointed toward a cultural high style for home accessories.
Spaghetti poodles were displayed in the living / dining rooms; the rooms where company was received, cigarettes were smoked, grasshoppers and martinis were enjoyed. Some were for display, and some were more functional; holding earrings or lipsticks on a vanity dresser (like the female dog).
Spaghetti poodles were special for their unique form, modern look, and sculptural artistry. A keen collector of today will recognise the artisan’s workmanship and creativity in the individually-formed strings of ceramic “spaghetti.”
Made by Santini, Italy. They both have 'Italy' hand painted underneath, and the green one has a number. Condition: The male dog has had repairs attempted to his neck, collar and one hind leg (see photos).
The female is in very good overall condition - I can't find any flaws. A great pair of MCM objet d'art.
