c.1914 Griffiths & Sons (Wales) | Antique Tie Press (11781)

  • $65.00

Used in Wales by Griffiths & Sons Clothiers (Newport, Swansea and Cardiff). Still in good working order. Could also be used as a flower press!

A few scratches and marks from use. A tie press is a device, based solely on pressure, to flatten neckties. Its use is necessitated by ties usually being of silk or some other textile ill-suited to the heat of ironing. Tie presses are particularly useful for bow ties, due to the creasing and thus deformative nature of the bow tie knot, which involves crushing the ends to produce the 'bow' effect.

Measures 255mm x 95mm x 65mm.
