Clara Davis Inness (b. Illinois Nov. 2, 1874 - d. Santa Barbara, CA Jan. 15, 1932).
While in San Francisco in 1896-99, Inness studied at the Mark Hopkins Art Institute. A spinster, she died of cancer in Santa Barbara, CA in 1932.
Her attention to the details of the trees, grasses, and banks of rivers and lakes in her artwork create picturesque views of rural areas during the late 1800s and early 1900s. She used neutral tones, bright blues, and plays of shadow and light to create realistic, natural landscapes. Artist Clara Inness liked to work on canvas, and while oil was her preferred medium, she also used acrylics.
Clara Inness' artwork for sale remains popular among collectors of vintage paintings. Measure 340mm wide x 655mm high x 20mm deep.
