Liz Murphy Pit Fired Pot (8819)
Made by Liz Murphy (Christchurch, NZ). This beautifully marbled, pit fired Objet measures 195mm tall. Colours: burgundy, different greys, black and white.
Pit Fired pottery is made from clay on the potter's wheel. It is then burnished when nearly dry with a metal tool. After bisque firing
in an electric kiln to 1,000 degrees C, it is fired in an oil drum with wood and sawdust. The colours come from copper sulphate fumes, wood and sawdust. Pots are then polished with floor wax to give a high shine. Pit fired pots are porous.
