Māori Woman & Child | Framed Print (12500)
Vintage Print--original watercolour by Francis Hodgkins. National Art Gallery, Wellington.
The Māori were among the artists favourite subjects from 1896 onwards. To begin with, they may have been done in emulation of the Samoan portraits Nerli produced in pastel and indeed the smudged effect of this watercolour resembles that medium.
One of Francis Hodgkins last recorded New Zealand works was the head of a Māori woman of 1913.
Professionally framed by River City Picture Framers & Art Dealers, Wanganui.
There are age spots and marks underneath the glass. The wooden frame is faux-bamboo look. A lovely old vintage print.
Measures 400mm w x 420mm h.
